‘The Voice': Andrew Sevener Tackles Charlie Daniels Band’s ‘Long Haired Country Boy’
On Monday (May 13), The Voice season 16's Top 8 gathered to perform solo numbers, as well as duets on Beatles songs (a new twist!), to see who makes the next cut to the final four. Team Blake Shelton had a remarkable five of the eight hopefuls, so it makes sense that he's most likely in the running for yet another win.
In fact, his team started out the evening, with Andrew Sevener putting forth a blasting performance of the Charlie Daniels Band's "Long Haired Country Boy" to get things off on the necessary country foot.
As it turned out, Sevener had a mission behind the song, saying that he'd become friends with the grandfather of one of his ex-girlfriends, who introduced him to Texas country music and who passed away a few days before the season's Battle Rounds. A tearful Sevener showed off the pendant he wears, which has the thumbprint of this special mentor.
After blasting out a totally 100% country rendition of the Daniels song, host Carson Daly asked the coaches for their thoughts. Coach Kelly Clarkson noted, "You're that style of country music I love listening to. I'm so glad you picked this song...I'm glad you did this version. It was a really cool, rocked-out version. I dig it"
Both coaches John Legend and Adam Levine approved too, with Legend raving, "You owned the stage. You appeared more confident than ever," and Levine agreeing, "That was your absolute best performance you ever had on the show."
Coach Shelton, of course agreed with all the praise. "By far your best performance, by far your best performance and by far the most confidence I've seen from you. I feel like you represent what country music fans love.
Four artists move on Tuesday night (May 14), and next week is the finale...so hang with us to see who wins!
