Watch Rascal Flatts + CeCe Winans’ Funky ‘Go Tell It on the Mountain’ from ‘CMA Country Christmas’ 2019
ABC's annual broadcast of CMA's Country Christmas special always brings cross-genre yuletide unions to network television. This year's event was no different, with the list of team-ups including Rascal Flatts and gospel legend CeCe Winans. For their shared "Nashville looks to Bethlehem" moment, the two acts covered a traditional African-American spiritual, "Go Tell It on the Mountain."
Readers can press play above to watch Rascal Flatts and Winans' performance. The soul-stirring number raises a valid question: Who had more fun, the three members of the Flatts, as they sang with one of the most decorated gospel performers of the past 35 years, or the house band, as they got to mix a little funk into a night of holiday tunes?
Before the show, Winans had high praise for Rascal Flatts member Gary LeVox: "Gary sings higher than I've ever sang in my life," she told Taste of Country and select media.
"Even in rehearsal, he wasn't even trying," Winans added, "so I was like, 'You know what, I'm going to have to come out of the gates fighting pretty hard.'"
This collaboration wasn't LeVox's first encounter in 2019 with a Christian music tastemaker. He helps sing the Lori McKenna co-write "'Til the Blue" on Steven Curtis Chapman's Grammy-nominated bluegrass album Deeper Roots: Where the Bluegrass Grows.
