The Paramount Theatre is continuing with it's themed classics film series. Don't miss the classic John Wayne film "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance." Enjoy all your favorite classic movies in the historic surroundings and under the star lit ceiling of the Paramount Theatre located at 352 Cypress Street in downtown Abilene. Most all films are shown, typically on Friday, Saturday and some Sunday matinees.

"The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" will be shown on both Friday, April 9th and Saturday, April 10th both times at 7:30pm. "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" is the classic film when John Wayne and Jimmy Stewart are joined together for the first time.

The movies plot is about a Senator Stoddard (played by James Stewart) attending a funeral of a man named Tom Doniphon (played by John Wayne) in a small Western town. In the flash back, we learn Doniphon saved Stoddard, then a lawyer, when he was roughed up by a gang of outlaws terrorizing the small western town, led by Liberty Valance (played by Lee Marvin). As the town’s safety hung in the balance, Doniphon and Stoddard were the only two people standing up to Liberty and his crew. .

'The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance' is great film to watch under the stars of the historic Paramount Theatre. Tickets are $7 general admission and $6 for seniors and military, get them in advance online at AbileneThundrTix.com due to limited capacity.

As with most venues in Abilene and around the Big Country CDC guidelines must be followed.

The Paramount Theatre has just updated their coronavirus statement saying: Yes, you still have to wear your mask everywhere but in your seats. No, our capacity has not changed. We feel like we have a system that is safe, a system that has exceeded local, state and federal requirements, and we are not ready to abandon what works. We will continue to monitor Hendrick COVID-19 numbers. There will be a time when we operate like we used to... there are very few ICU beds available in Abilene They're filled with the people we love who are fighting for their lives. We're going to stay vigilant.

The Theatre will reopen with new revised scheduling to ensure staff adequate time to clean and disinfect the building between events. Only the Theatre’s auditorium, lobby, and mezzanine will be open to the public at this time.

Paramount Theatre rentals will resume with limited capacity guidelines. All bookings will be carefully reviewed by the Executive Director, Technical Director, Events Manager, and Business Manager. To allow for proper social distancing. Paramount staff will be closely monitoring the number of patrons in and out of the theatre.  Everyone 10 years of age and over will be required to wear a face mask. Everyone under 10 years of age is strongly encouraged to wear a mask.
