Bluegrass four-piece NewTown are premiering their cover of Tyler Childers' song "Long Hard Road" exclusively for readers of The Boot. Press play below to hear the re-imagined track.

In NewTown's hands, "Long Hard Road" is given a little extra twang thanks to the fiddle and banjo. Both acts are from Kentucky -- Childers hails from Lawrence County, while NewTown are based slightly west of there, in Lexington -- so it makes sense that the bluegrass band would cover the rising Americana star. With their modern instrumentation and fiddler Kati Penn Williams' lush vocals, NewTown brings a decidedly more upbeat tone to Childers' tune, which originally appeared on his 2011 album Bottles & Bibles.

"I found myself always coming back to this song, and one day me and [my husband] Jr. [Williams, NewTown vocalist and banjo player], started fooling with some ideas with it at home. It evolved from there basically," Williams tells The Boot. "I enjoy the [song's] theme of having to be away from someone for whatever reason and just feeling that overwhelming sense of needing to get back. We can all relate to that on some level.”

Formed in 2009, NewTown is comprised of the Williamses, as well as mandolin player Mitchell Cannon and bassist Travis Anderson; on their forthcoming new album, Old World, they're also joined by guitarist Aaron Ramsey. The band has shared the stage with iconic bluegrass acts such as Rhonda Vincent and the Lonesome River Band.

"Long Hard Road" is one of 10 songs on Old World, which is set for release on Aug. 17 on Mountain Home Records. The project is available for pre-order on iTunes.
