In the midst of the 2018 AmericanaFest, country star Margo Price surprised fans with a brief rooftop performance ahead of her scheduled meet and greet at Third Man Records on Thursday (Sept. 13.) As concertgoers who have seen Price live before know, the singer often brings surprise guests to join her during her set, and her Third Man performance was no exception: Price invited up-and-comer Lilly Hiatt to duet with her on The Beatles' 1969 hit, "Don't Let Me Down." Hiatt and Price had also both performed at the 2018 Americana Honors & Awards ceremony the day prior, where Price was nominated in the Album of the Year, Artist of the Year and Song of the Year categories, while Hiatt was up for an award for Emerging Artist of the Year.

While Price has performed with icons such as Emmylou Harris, Sturgill Simpson, Jack White and many more, the country star has often expressed that it's also important to her to support the newer talent that's right in her backyard. Newer artists, such as Hiatt, who belong to the community of Nashville performers but are on the cusp of broader recognition, often make appearances at Price's shows as well.

"It's really fun to collaborate with my peers," Price told The Boot in a recent interview, referring to her headlining run of shows at the Ryman earlier in 2018. During that show, she brought out several friends and members of the Nashville music community to perform with her. "I had a bunch of girlfriends come out and sing with me as well, which was just awesome, to have a bunch of my longtime friends come and share the moment with me.

"There's so many talented people living here [in Nashville] that still haven't gotten their big break," Price continues. "I like to champion them, because I know how it is, being a little fish in a big pond."

Later in the Thursday evening set, Price also tapped Brandi Carlile to join her on a raucous performance of Dolly Parton's iconic "9 to 5," closing out the rooftop show. It wasn't the first time this summer the two singers had joined forces: Price also brought Carlile to the stage for a performance of "9 to 5" during her set at the 2018 Newport Folk Festival in July.
