Maren Morris, Zedd and Grey took the stage during the back half of Sunday night's (May 20) 2018 Billboard Music Awards ceremony to perform their hit "The Middle." The three artists kept their stage setup relatively simple, allowing Morris' vocals and the song's melody -- which have made the track a huge hit -- shine.

Throughout their performance of "The Middle," Morris stood center stage, with Zedd and the men of Grey to either side. A giant video screen added visual elements to the performance, and as the final chorus began, confetti shot out into the audience.

After 12 other vocalists tried their hand at her part of the song, Morris and company dropped "The Middle" in late January; about a week later, they debuted its music video (also a Target commercial) during the 2018 Grammy Awards. In the almost four months since the song's release, it has found massive popularity among audiences of all stripes: The single shot to the top of the Billboard Dance / Mix Show Airplay chart in just four weeks, making Morris the first country performer to top that chart since its inception in 2003, and it's hit No. 1 on a total of eight Billboard charts.

That isn't to say that Morris is leaving country music behind, however: Her current single, "Rich," which she performed at the ACM Awards in April, is steadily climbing the country charts, and comes off of Morris' 2016 debut album, Hero. She is currently working on her sophomore project.
