What do Tim McGraw, Third Eye Blind and Nirvana all have in common? They're among the artists who made country up-and-comer Kalie Shorr realize she wanted to be a songwriter; the playlist she assembled for The Boot includes them and more.

"[These are some of] my biggest influences and reasons why my music sounds the way it does," Shorr says. "The lyrics in these songs are so strong, and that’s always been what drew me to songwriting."

In addition to McGraw's "Red Ragtop," "For a Little While" and "Like We Never Loved at All;" Third Eye Blind's "Graduate" and "Motorcycle Drive By;" and Nirvana's "All Apologies," Shorr's 35-song playlist also features Lee Ann Womack's "Last Call," Pearl Jam's "Last Kiss" and Dire Straits' "Romeo and Juliet.""

""Motorcycle Drive By" by Third Eye Blind is one of the most beautiful breakup songs ever written," Shorr says. "It’s so simple but also feels like healing. The line 'I’ve never been so alone and I’ve never been so alive' stops me in my tracks no matter how many times I’ve heard it."

Shorr released her Awake EP earlier this year; she is also one of the main players in the weekly all-women songwriter showcase Song Suffragettes. Readers can press play below to hear her full playlist.
