Mitchell County Police Need Your Help to Find This Escaped Inmate

An escaped prisoner from the Mitchell County Jail is currently the most wanted man in this part of West Texas. The escaped prisoner goes by the name of Pedro Martinez and was considered a "trustee" within the Mitchell county jail system. It was during his work detail that he was helping unload food and other supplies from the truck that he somehow escaped.

Currently, the Mitchell County Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers, the Mitchell County Sheriff's (MCS) Deputies, Colorado City Police Department (CCP), DPS Criminal Investigation Division (CID), Texas Department of Corrections (TDC), U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (USCBP), Howard County Sheriff’s Deputies (HCSO), Scurry County Sheriff’s Deputies (SCSO), Snyder Police Department (SPD), and Nolan County Sheriff’s Deputies are all on high alert in search of the escaped prisoner.

Please be aware that Pedro Martinez is a 44-year-old male that is from Chihuahua, Mexico. He was originally arrested for possession of controlled substances and money laundering. Martinez has been in custody and waiting for his trial date at the Mitchell county jail since he was arrested on March 29th, 2022.

When Pedro Martinez and the other trustees were unloading the food and supplies truck at the jail around 5:20 AM on Tuesday, October 4th during the work detail is when Martinez disappeared. The Mitchell County Sheriff's Office discovered Martinez missing at 5:28 AM and immediately filed a report of the escaped inmate.

Authorities in and around Mitchell county have been exhausting all resources to try and locate Martinez. Including using the Texas Department of Public Safety's Aircraft Operations Unit. The Mitchell County Sheriff's Office and DPS Texas Rangers are asking for any and all information that would lead to the apprehension of the escaped inmate.

Everyone is being asked to remain vigilant in securing their homes and businesses and locking up their vehicles. Keep a sharp eye out for any suspicious activity or persons in and around your area.
