Blake Shelton earned a No. 1 hit with "My Eyes," the fifth single from his 2013 Based on a True Story ... album. The song, which Shelton sang as a duet with Gwen Sebastian, his friend and former Team Blake contestant on The Voice, began with "Those high heels with that sun dress / Turquoise heart hanging 'round your neck /Red lips like wine, wanna drink 'em up / And keep on drinkin' 'til you make me drunk," setting the tone for one of the sexiest songs Shelton had released so far in his career.

"My Eyes" became one of the biggest hits of Shelton's career, staying at the top of the charts for three weeks and helping Based on a True Story ... win a CMA Awards for Album of the Year.

Tommy Lee James, who co-wrote "My Eyes," recently sat down with The Boot to share the story behind the hit single.

I was glad I showed up that day. I wrote that with Josh Osborne and Andrew Dorff. We got together, we sat down and we chatted for a while. Josh goes, “I have this idea. I don’t know if it’s any good or not. But the hook is, 'My eyes are the only thing I don’t want to take off of you.' We were like, “Oh my God, we have to write that.”

It really happened pretty fast, but it’s always a fun write. Some of those lines in their remind me of Andrew and the quirky ways he would come up with stuff nobody else would come up with. It’s actually a really, really deceptively hard song to sing, and Blake’s version is really great.  Blake’s such a good singer.
