Eric Church Shares His Version of ‘We Were’ Live in Concert With Jeff Hyde [WATCH]
Eric Church offered up a live rendition of "We Were" alongside Jeff Hyde, one of the songwriters who helped him pen the tune, during a Birmingham, Ala. show on Saturday (Oct. 26). The song is currently a hit for fellow superstar Keith Urban.
Church and Urban recently teamed up for a reimagined duet version of "We Were," but Church's Saturday evening delivery offered additional new perspective on the song. Church's performance was accompanied by Hyde, one of two writers who co-wrote the tune with Church (along with Ryan Tyndell) and a frequent collaborator for the "Some of It" superstar.
"I write all my songs with Jeff, or most of them," Church told the crowd before performing "We Were" with Hyde. "We're gonna do something we've never done: We're gonna play a song that's a big hit for Keith Urban right now."
The pair jokingly expressed some doubts over whether or not they'd be able to pull off the performance. "If this goes bad, then, you know..." Church added before launching into the song.
In May, Urban revealed that he decided to record "We Were" before learning that Church had co-written the track. "I found out, and I called Eric, and I was like, 'Dude, I just cut this song,'" Urban recalled at the time. "I said, 'I had no idea you were a writer on it.' He said, 'Well, that's even better, because it means you really loved the song.' I do. I really love the song."
Church and Urban's new duet on "We Were" isn't the first time they've teamed up for a song; in 2013, they collaborated for "Raise 'Em Up."
