Drake White was on the road and headed back to his home state when he first heard himself on the radio. It was an emotional experience for the lifelong country fan, who couldn’t wait to tell his wife the good news. Below, White talks about the memory with The Boot.

I was on I-59 going south to Birmingham, Ala., for a show. It came on WZZK[-FM, a Birmingham-area country station], and -- it’s one of those things.

I grew up sitting on a cooler in the back of a CJ-7 Jeep listening to country radio, from Aaron Tippin to Brooks & Dunn to Charlie Daniels to all these great acts. It’s like I always dreamed of that, and so it was emotional, and it’s one of those things I’ll never forget.

My tour manager was in the car with me. I called my wife and said, “Check it out! We’re on the radio!”
