Brett Young is engaged! The singer proposed to his girlfriend, Taylor Mills, earlier in February.

People reports that Young popped the question in Oxford, Miss., at a hotel near where he went to college, Ole Miss. The couple met in Scottsdale, Ariz., about 10 years ago, while Mills was in school at Arizona State University, and "will likely get married there," the country star says, "so I thought it would be romantic to propose where I went to school."

“We were able to get a suite with a large, covered patio, and the hospitality staff at the hotel set it up while we were at dinner, so it was waiting for us when we got back," Young shares. "We are both more excited than we can express and looking forward to starting this chapter of our lives together."

Young and Mills dated for about six years and moved to Los Angeles together after school; however, they took a break in their relationship when he moved to Nashville.

"I wrote a lot of my first record about her," Young explains. "There was never any bad blood; it was just the wrong time for us. We recently got back in touch and realized that we were both finally in the same place and knew it was right.”

After she said yes, Young gave Mills a custom ring, featuring their initials. It was designed by David M. Kodner of David Kodner Personal Jewelers.
