Over the years, I've heard some questions about the 'Key City' that always raises my eyebrows. I'm sure other cities can say the same thing. But, these questions are repeated over and over again by different people.

I guess some of these questions are legit, especially the one about the drainage system. But, I'm here to tell you that these repeated questions fall in the category of dumb. Hey, I'm just calling it as I see it.

Does Abilene have a drainage system?

Ok, this is sort of a legit question. But, the answer is, yes. You might not be able to tell with all of the floodings that take place anytime it rains, but Abilene does indeed have a drainage system - it's just really, really slow. So, don't be surprised to see any of us out in a small boat floating the "Abilene River" because we have plenty of time before the water recedes.

Do people in Abilene actually have a driver's license?

Contrary to popular belief, yes, most people in Abilene do have a driver's license. I know that may be hard to believe, especially when it rains or snows, but we really do possess a legal driver's license - well, most of us.

So, whether we were taught in school or if 'Uncle Ed' taught us on the back roads of Clyde, Texas, rest assured, we're not rolling without that little plastic thingy we pull out when we buy beer.

Are there any good BBQ places in Abilene?

Are you serious? First of all, you're in Texas. Second of all, you're in Texas! I think Texas towns that don't have a BBQ restaurant, are fined or something like that. Just like Abilene is known for having a lot of churches, there is no shortage of places to get your BBQ on.

Have you ever been cow-tipping?

Only if the cow gives great service. But, seriously, I have been asked this question a number of times. You know, just because we're in Abilene, Texas doesn't mean we do stupid things to animals when they are sleeping while standing up. Or do we?

Why is there never anything to do in Abilene?

I hear this question probably more than any other. Yes, there are plenty of things to do in Abilene. In fact, some of those things people forget about or take for granted. We even have a ton of things to do if you're on a budget. Whether you like live music, museums, drive-in theaters, or even cow-tipping, there are tons of things to do in Abilene. Ok, probably not a good idea to go cow-tipping.
